Taking Friday afternoons off is a great way to connect with the weekend. A few weeks ago, around Easter, I saw a commercial for Kellogg’s Rice Krispies and thought now is the perfect time to introduce my 4 year old to snap crackle pop squares. Like someone new to the kitchen I searched for a recipe until I realized it was on the side of the box. Perfect marketing! Chocolate chip cookie recipe on the bag of chocolate chips; rice krispie square recipe on the rice krispie cereal box… GENIUS!
In case you were searching too here is the original rice krispie recipe.
A few of us mom’s got together with the idea to give the rice krispie squares an Easter feel by forming them into egg shapes. Well we learned quickly you have to wait for the squares to set before they’ll form into anything. After about 20 minutes and 3 failed attempts we were able to create the eggs. You can also flatten out the squares a little and use cookie cutters to create shapes. Geometric shapes such as circles and stars work better than intricate cookie cutters.
From there we created a rice krispie egg chocolate fondue complete with multi-color sugars and sprinkles. It was all high energy from there!
Please drop me a line with ideas or pictures of your family fun and I’ll post them each Friday.
